Dr. Mark Williams
Research began over thirty years ago, when Dr. Williams wondered why some patients were at risk for nursing home care while others were not. As a result, he noticed that patients with various orthopedic and neurological conditions had subtle differences in manual skill and their gait. Dr. Williams hypothesized that what he perceived through expert observation could be objectively and reproducibly automated for other health practitioners. Decades of research lead to the culmination of his ideas at UVA, where he proved his hypothesis with basic electronic sensors to createbiokinetographs, BKGs. His research resulted in the creation of specific diagnostic algorithms to use for assessing, diagnosing, monitoring and making predictions for a variety of medical conditions, including Parkinson’sdisease. His work is protected in fourcomprehensive US and International patents.
